MONSOON 2019 BBC Two, 10pm

Henry Golding stars in this beautiful drama about a British-Vietnamese man who returns to his birth country for the first time in 30 years, having fled Saigon as a child during the Vietnam War. Torrential rains drench the screen, but director Hong Khaou declines any easy resolution towards cleansing and renewal. Rather, he doggedly pursues the beguiling complexity of identity as it disappears into the murky overflow.
