India v England Saturday, TNT Sports 2, 3.30am HORSE RACING Ascot Chase

-

An early morning of cricket from the Saurashtra Stadium in Gujarat, which hosts the third day of the third Test between India and England. In a blow to India’s batting order, and to the thrill of the series itself, Virat Kohli has not joined the action as previously expected. The batsman withdrew from the first two Tests for personal reasons and will miss the remainder of the series. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal stepped up in his absence, scoring a double century in the last Test to secure victory for the hosts. England were stung in Visakhapatnam by their failure to put together big partnerships, while only Ollie Pope has broken a century in the series thus far. The fourth Test begins late on Friday night (TNT 1, 3.30am).

Ascot hosts an early season meeting headlined by the Grade 1 Ascot

Chase (3.35pm). Nicky Henderson’s Shishkin triumphed last year, surging to victory over two miles and five furlongs. Punters will have their eyes peeled for clues ahead of the Cheltenham Gold Cup next month. Andy Edwards’s L’Homme Presse (ridden by Charlie Deutsch) leads the field after making a winning return in the Fleur De Lys Chase at Lingfield.

The reigning Super League champions begin their title defence against old foes Castleford Tigers at Wheldon Road. Tigers endured a torrid time last season, avoiding

relegation by four slender points. New head coach Craig Lingard will hope to revive their fortunes, but he’s in for a baptism of fire against a supremely talented Warriors side.
