While Eng­land’s restarts were ex­cel­lent and there was a real ur­gency, tempo and com­mit­ment to their play, over­all there were too many mis­takes across the park, par­tic­u­larly han­dling er­rors. Even from the kick-off Eng­land al­lowed the ball to bounce, and a suc­ces­sion of er­rors, par­tic­u­larly in the first half, un­der­mined Lan­caster’s side’s hopes of build­ing a com­mand­ing lead de­spite en­joy­ing the ma­jor­ity of pos­ses­sion. Even the nor­mally rock solid Mike Brown gifted a plat­form to Fiji by slic­ing a kick out on the full. Such profli­gacy is likely to be pun­ished later.
