The Daily Telegraph - Saturday - - COVER STORY -

Be suddenly grateful for our American cousins’ prudishness. According to Florence Pugh, who stars in The Little Drummer Girl, the BBC tempered the nudity in the forthcoming series to appease American audiences. She is astonished that “bums and nipples” are considered offensive when scenes of violence are not, and she is right. That said, the naked Hiddleston bottom scene in the last le Carré dramatisation has put us off bums on TV for good. It was just way too pronounced and bottomy. At the time we wondered if it might even have been a false bum. Anyway it’s given us bottom aversion, as we discovered in Bodyguard. Nipples, absolutely fine.
