Choose dishes with big flavours as delicate tastes are lost on a breezy day. Make sure that most of the menu can be prepared ahead.

Being outdoors makes you thirsty, so pick a good non-alcoholic drink.

The table

A candle-powered hotplate is useful. For table decoration­s, our stylist Valerie Berry painted quail’s eggs and hen’s eggs with green food colouring.

Keep snug

Keep blankets, wraps and jumpers close by, and put cushions on seats.
