FROM the EXOTIC

Fresh lemongrass stems, sold in most supermarkets, let you grow the flavours of south-east Asia right on your windowsill. Check they are whole stems, with pale, slightly woody bases, then when you get home dunk them in a glass of water in a light spot. Change the water twice weekly. Once roots appear, pot them and keep indoors till after the last frost.
