Driver took suitcase as victims lay in crash

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

AN uninsured driver returned to the scene of a car crash to grab his holiday suitcase while others were still trapped, a court heard.

Taylor Moss, 24, caused a three-car crash on his way to Manchester airport when he tried to overtake a taxi and ploughed into an oncoming vehicle.

He fled the scene with his partner, but returned to collect his suitcase to jet off to Tenerife while three passengers remained trapped in the car he ploughed into. Greater Manchester

Police said his BMW hit a Toyota Yaris before hitting another vehicle at around 1.10am on Sept 17 last year.

The three passengers of the Yaris had to be cut free and suffered life-changing injuries in the crash in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Moss claimed he wasn’t driving the car at the time and that he’d been dropped off at the airport by his parents before flying to Tenerife.

During his two-week holiday, he tried to report the car as stolen. But police found his DNA on the airbag that had been deployed during the crash.

They then established that Moss and his partner fled the scene and returned a short time later to collect their cases.

Moss pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with no insurance, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, failing to report a crash and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.

He was jailed for three years at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday and was banned from driving for four years.

Pc Phil Williams, of Greater Manchester Police, described his actions as “utterly disgraceful”.
