Montpellier stun Toulon
Montpellier kept their Heineken Champions Cup flame burning with a 34-13 victory over Toulon.
Tries from Jan Serfontein, Henry Immelman, Vincent Giudicelli, Ruan Pienaar and Levan Chilachava ensured a bonus-point success for the home side in the clash of the Top 14 rivals. Pienaar converted three of the tries and kicked an early penalty.
Mamuka Gorgodze crossed for the visitors, who led early on through a Francois Trinh-duc penalty. He kicked another just before half-time. The result leaves Montpellier four points behind Edinburgh, with two matches left. Toulon prop up Pool Five.
In the Challenge Cup, Harlequins moved to the top of Pool Five with a 20-9 victory over Benetton Rugby. First-half tries from Lewis Boyce and Joe Marchant were enough to give them a second win and move a point clear of their visitors. James Lange added both conversions and a penalty, with Marcus Smith tagging on another three-pointer. All of Benetton’s points came from the boot of Ian Mckinley.
Worcester top Pool Two on 13 points after they beat Pau 23-7. Josh Adams and Alafoti Faosiliva scored first-half tries after Ben Mowen had gone over early for Pau. Duncan Weir made sure of the victory with both conversions and three penalties.
Sale suffered their first defeat in the competition when they went down 17-14 against Bordeauxbegles in Pool Three, while Bristol claimed a 13-3 win over La Rochelle in France.
