Semi-finalists pay homage to heroes of ’92
The members of the last England team to reach a World Cup final have been sent a replica of the current side’s shirt emblazoned with their name on the back to commemorate their achievement 27 years ago.
The light blue shirt worn by this England team was designed in homage to the 1992 side who reached the World Cup final in Melbourne, where they lost to Pakistan. That team are regarded as England’s finest one-day side and the current crop are hoping to go one step further.
Phillip Defreitas, who played in the 1992 final, put a photograph of his new shirt on social media. “I will be wearing it on Thursday and hoping this fine young team go one step further,” he said.
Tomorrow’s semi-final against Australia is the first time England have reached the last four since the 1992 tournament.
