US hopes hit Lewis injury leaves Inkster with six rookies
The United States’ hopes have been dealt a blow by the late withdrawal of former world No1 Stacy Lewis with a back injury. Lewis’s place has been taken by Ally Mcdonald, 26, meaning that Juli Inkster now has six rookies in her team. When selecting Lewis, 34, as a wild card for what would have been her sixth Solheim Cup appearance, Inkster emphasised the need for experience and although Mcdonald is ranked higher – at 51st compared to 81st – the two-time major winner was seen as a four-ball specialist.
Mcdonald is in her fourth year as a pro, but has yet to win. Lewis is staying on as part of Inkster’s backroom staff.
