Moore availability in doubt for latest Mums Tipple ride

The unbeaten Mums Tipple, who made such an impression when winning a valuable York sales race by 11 lengths under Ryan Moore last month, may have a new jockey for Saturday’s Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.

The Group One event over six furlongs should sort out the pecking order among this season’s quickest two-year-olds after Earthlight, the best in France, Siskin, the best in Ireland, and Mums Tipple were among the 13 colts left in the race yesterday.

Four of the entries – including Monarch of Egypt, who has chased home the Ger Lyons-trained Siskin twice – are trained by Aidan O’brien. That presents a small headache for Richard Hannon, who plans to run both Mums Tipple and Threat, his Champagne Stakes winner, because Moore may be required by O’brien.

“It was always a possibility,” Hannon said. “Ryan said he will let me know as soon as he knows, and we have a plan B and C. If you think you have a good horse, finding a good jockey is not generally a problem.”
