Eriksen mocks Vertonghen ‘affair’ rumour

Christian Eriksen has ridiculed an internet rumour that Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Jan Vertonghen had an affair with his girlfriend, branding them “bulls---”.

Eriksen took to Twitter to address gossip that a fling between his partner, Sabrina Kvist, and Belgium defender Vertonghen were behind a dressing-room bust-up involving England captain Harry Kane.

Replying to a tweet posted by @Casualmind_ regarding online rumours after Spurs’ humiliating 7-2 Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich, Eriksen replied with “#bulls---” and a sleeping face emoji.

Vertonghen then responded to Eriksen’s post with another emoji in the form of a love heart next to his team-mate’s Twitter handle.

Eriksen and Kvist have been together since 2012 and their first child, Alfred, was born last year, although the tweet from @Casualmind_ wrongly stated that they were married.

It was also claimed that Mauricio Pochettino, the Spurs manager, would join Real Madrid next summer and take with him Eriksen and potentially Kane.

The tweet read: “Jan Vertonghen caught sleeping with Christian Eriksen wife. Harry Kane got involved, big dressing-room bust-up.

“Club refusing to offer Vertonghen a new contract. Eriksen was due to join Real Madrid but personal reasons stopped the deal. Half the players not [talking] to each other, Eriksen said he’s not in a good place to play football. Pochettino unable to resolve the situation, likely to join Real Madrid in the summer and take Eriksen with him and possibly Kane.”

A picture of Vertonghen with a black eye was also posted, insinuating that he had sustained it in a brawl. Vertonghen and Eriksen are long-time team-mates, however, dating to their time at Ajax, whom they left for Tottenham in 2012 and 2013.

Both have endured a difficult start to the season, with Eriksen failing to secure a move to Spain this summer, while he and Vertonghen have been in and out of the Tottenham side.

They are also out of contract next summer, with Spurs opening talks with Vertonghen over an extension this week, although the 32-year-old might only be offered a one-year deal.
