Silva: I do not fear the sack despite losses

- By Chris Bascombe

Marco Silva is not contemplating being sacked should Everton suffer a fifth consecutive league defeat today. Silva’s team take on West Ham at Goodison Park with the manager desperate for a result to escape the bottom three.

Although the pressure is intensifying, Silva feels reassured by owner Farhad Moshiri saying his position does not hinge on the outcome of today’s game. But he also accepted there must be a rapid transformation to get the club out of trouble.

“It [the sack] is not something that is ever in my mind because when I’m winning five or six games I’m not thinking if I win I will renew the contract and get three years more,” said Silva.

“A manager doesn’t have to lose one second to even think in this situation. We have to go with: ‘We worked well during the week, we have planned everything well, tomorrow our players they will perform well playing in our stadium and we have to show togetherness to win a football match.’ The other things I don’t lose one second thinking about that.”

Silva believes there is more understanding than impatience from the club hierarchy, especially given a debilitating injury list. He believes Moshiri has faith in him.

“If you ask me my feeling from what comes from our owner or our football structure, I never had doubts about that,” said Silva.

“Of course we are talking about results and if you have a good project in football but don’t win matches you don’t forget it [the project]. It doesn’t happen. Not just with Everton but any club in the world. We don’t just look at that.

“They [the board] know what has happened in the last two months. We don’t just look at the results, even if they are the main thing and you have to win games to support all of the project, the young players, all these things. We have to get the results. But about confidence, I never had doubts.”
