Q&A How the draft works

Q Which players are up for auction tomorrow? A A total of 570 players have registered to be in the draft. There are 96 remaining slots. Each team are permitted to pick three overseas players. Q Are England players involved? A England Test players have already been allocated to teams – Ben Stokes is with the Leedsbased Northern Supercharg­ers, Joe Root with Nottingham­based Trent Rockets. But James Anderson and Stuart Broad are not taking part. Some England white-ball players, such as Jason Roy and Tom Curran, have already been picked up by teams among the two local icons each are permitted. Leading England players yet to be picked include Sam Billings, Mark Wood, Olly Stone, Joe Denly, Liam Dawson and Liam Plunkett. Q How are the players divided? A There are seven price bands, each with two slots. Chris Gayle, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc have all set their reserve price at the maximum £125,000. The bands then go: £100,000, £75,000, £60,000, £50,000, £40,000 and £30,000. Q How many players can a team sign? A Each team will sign 12 in the draft. Teams have already used two of their 14 picks for local icon players. Q How much can they spend? A Each team have a total budget of £960,000, which does not include England Test players with central contracts, who are allocated separately. This includes a £30,000 wild-card pick – which will be done next summer after the T20 Blast is completed – so they will each spend £960,000 in the draft, including players in whom they have already invested.
