England's superb defensive effort in the first 20 minutes

The Daily Telegraph - Sport - - Total Rugby -

England's defence in the opening 20 minutes was a defiant statement that went a long way towards winning the match. They made 37 out of their 40 attempted tackles in seven defensive sets and finished it 14-3 ahead as Jonny May scored two tries in as many minutes – the second of which was after a Tom Curry tackle on David Pocock forced an error. Australia threw everything at England but came up short, with Curry (who made nine tackles, five of them in the first minute and 43 seconds) and Sam Underhill (who made two dominant tackles) particularly effective. England will need more of the same against New Zealand on Saturday.
