Mourinho coy on Campos

-

Jose Mourinho has admitted it will not be his call whether or not Luis Campos joins him at Tottenham Hotspur as director of football.

Campos is keen to link up with Mourinho again, having worked with him at Real Madrid and remained in close contact with the Portuguese. Mourinho wanted to work with Campos at Manchester United before he was sacked and is believed to be open to the Lille sporting director following him to Tottenham. But Mourinho has also acknowledged that it will be the decision of chairman Daniel Levy, and not his, whether a job can be created for Campos.

Asked whether Campos will join him at Spurs, Mourinho said: “At Tottenham? I don’t know. Luis Campos worked with me at Real Madrid. Luis Campos is a big friend of mine. Luis Campos is doing great in his career with Monaco and Lille. I work at Tottenham with the structure that the club wants me to work.”

Tottenham have not had a director of football since Franco Baldini left the club in 2015. Former head of recruitment Paul Mitchell also left a year later and his job was taken by Steve Hitchen, who is still at Spurs.
