Southampton ready to break up Liverpool’s Anfield party

Hasenhuttl’s side have form to grab a win on the road – with odds too tempting to ignore

-

So, when will Liverpool drop points? That is the question most punters – and every bookmaker – will be asking as they attempt to weigh up the odds for the latest round of Premier League matches. Liverpool are priced around 4/1 to go unbeaten for the rest of the season and that might attract support, given Liverpool’s win over West Ham United on Wednesday means they have now avoided defeat against every team in the Premier League during this campaign. However, I think they might just struggle at Anfield today against Southampton.

Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to grind out wins, but have not faced a team in the same form as Southampton. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have lost just twice in their past 10 matches (league and cup) and both those defeats came at home. They are unbeaten in their last four away games, with wins at fourth-placed Chelsea and third-placed Leicester City.

Only the top four teams in the Premier League have won more away games than Southampton this season, and the only team to have beaten them on their travels in any competition since their 9-0 home defeat by Leicester at the end of October are Manchester City.

Southampton are 10/1 to win at Anfield and I will be throwing a couple of quid at that price given their recent upturn in form, but

Southampton to beat Liverpool

Southampton double chance

England to win the Six Nations

Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl the best bet could well be the 27/10 double chance, which means you win if the result is a Southampton win or the game ends in a draw.

Following England’s stellar performance at the Rugby World Cup in Japan, when they beat southern-hemisphere behemoths Australia and New Zealand before losing against South Africa in the final, it is no surprise Eddie Jones’s men are odds-on to win the Six Nations.

Only two teams – England and Scotland – have not changed head coaches since the last Six Nations, and that consistency of management surely weighs things in England’s favour. With top coaches Joe Schmidt and Warren Gatland leaving Ireland and Wales respectively, this could well be a case where backing at odds-on pays off.

If you have any American friends, chances are they will probably have spent the last two weeks attempting to persuade you that the Super Bowl is the greatest sporting event of the year. We all know that is not the case, but there are plenty of betting opportunities to be had and not all of them take place on the pitch.

It is possible to bet on all the usual markets – winning team, total points, etc – but you can also bet on the length of time Demi Lovato takes to sing the national anthem, and the first song Jennifer Lopez performs during the half-time show.

For those not in the know, the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers, and it is Kansas quarterback Patrick Mahomes who looks set to steal the show.

Mahomes is only the third quarterback in history, after Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, to throw 50 touchdown passes in a single season, and American Football could be on the verge of anointing a new superstar.

Take the 4/5 on a Kansas City victory.

?? ?? On top form: Southampton have lost only twice in their past 10 games, and are worth a bet at 10/1 against Liverpool at Anfield today
