It is looking good for Leeds, says Dallas
Leeds are proving as impressive off the pitch in their refusal to discuss their impending promotion as they are on it in their march back to the Premier League, although Stuart Dallas was briefly in danger of letting the mask slip after the 2-0 win over Huddersfield.
A fifth consecutive victory, all with clean sheets, returned them to the summit of the Championship and opened up a seven-point gap on third-placed Fulham, who need to win at Elland Road next week to have any hope of catching Marcelo Bielsa’s rejuvenated side.
Given their capitulation 12 months ago from a seemingly impregnable top-two finish to eventual play-off losers, a reticence to count chickens with nine games remaining is understandable. However, on the evidence of their latest display, an end to their 16year top-flight exile grows closer.
Dallas is happy to toe the party line enthusiastically espoused by Bielsa, the head coach who was quick to remind his side that the hardest part of the campaign is that which lays ahead of them.
Dallas conceded: “I’d be lying if I said we were not in a good position.”
Quickly returning to script, the 28-year-old added: “We have to keep focused on what is ahead of us.”
Patrick Bamford scored for the first time since the end of January when following up to double the lead at the outset of the second half, adding to a stunning volleyed opener from Luke Ayling.
