Kane’s pre-season preparations to be hit by spell in quarantine
Harry Kane is set to miss Totten- ham Hotspur’s opening pre-season fixture today after going into quarantine on his return from holiday.
The England captain went to the Bahamas after Spurs’ season was completed on July 26, with restrictions for returning from the Caribbean country announced on Aug 7 and travellers told to isolate for 14 days.
Jose Mourinho’s squad have returned at separate times this week to begin their preparations for 2020-21, but Kane is likely to come back next week.
Spurs face Ipswich Town and Kane will miss that game, then Mourinho’s team have back-to-back friendlies the following weekend when they face Reading on Friday and Birmingham City the following day.
Kane, 27, is still on course to play in England’s matches against Iceland and Denmark in September. Spurs have also announced they will face Watford at Vicarage Road on Sept 5 when international players are away.
The Spurs striker posted footage of himself on his Instagram account training last week and working on his own is not expected to impact on his fitness levels significantly before returning for his club and country.
Premier League players have three weeks before the start of the next campaign, with a condensed break due to the coronavirus pandemic. Players have travelled for their holidays, but rules on isolating have changed at short notice in places such as France and Spain.
All holidaymakers were warned that people who do not self-isolate when required can be fined up to £1,000 in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, with increased punishments for any repeat offenders.
Kane suffered a hamstring injury last season in January which ruled him out until Project Restart, when he scored seven goals in nine games and helped Spurs secure a Europa League place on the final day of the season.
