Man marking
England 4-2-3-1 Nick Pope
The goalkeeper did not touch the ball at all during the first half. This was no more than an exercise in concentration for the Burnley man.
Reece James
Now ahead of Trent Alexander-arnold, the Chelsea right-back enjoyed himself getting forward and set up a goal for Calvert-lewin.
Conor Coady
The Wolves defender took the captain’s armband after Sterling went off at half-time and got an accidental thump in the face from substitute Mings.
John Stones
Should have marked his return to the England team with a goal, but the Manchester City defender missed an early sitter when he lofted a Mount pass over.
Ben Chilwell
Linked well with his Chelsea team-mate Mount down the left and played the precise pass from which Wardprowse opened the scoring for England.
Kalvin Phillips
The Leeds man was neat and tidy on the ball, playing as the deepest midfielder in an England team often camped on the edge of the San Marino penalty area.
James Ward-prowse
Netted his first England goal with a smart finish in the 14th minute and was unlucky to see one of his trademark free-kicks tipped on to a post.
Jesse Lingard
The winger started on the right and finished on the left. He set-up Calvertlewin’s second goal, but will be wondering how he did not score himself.
Raheem Sterling
Captain for the night and clearly desperate to score, Sterling missed a couple of good chances before getting his goal in the 31st minute.
Mason Mount
England’s best performer before half-time withdrawal, Mount’s ball over the top for Stones was perfect and he was also the man who set up Sterling to score.
Dominic Calvert-lewin The Everton striker got a couple of goals, but he will be disappointed he did not grab a hat-trick as he missed two more great opportunities.
Subs: Trippier (James h-t), Mings (Stones h-t), Bellingham (Mount h-t), Foden (Sterling h-t), Watkins (Calvert-lewin 63).
