Glazer: Stadium revamp is just getting started

-

Manchester United have completed £20million worth of upgrades to Old Trafford, including work on the changing rooms to allow away teams to return from the temporary structure that was used last season due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The new, bigger dressing room will allow visitors to return to their traditional preparation area, with the changes also allowing for an enlarged home dressing room.

Additional changes to the 72,000seat stadium include new postmatch broadcast media facilities and floodlights, while barrier seating has been installed within the J Stand section.

A new pitch has been laid over the summer, and stands and cantilever girders have been cleaned and painted.

New disabled facilities located at the red and black concourse of the Stretford End are also due to be opened in the near future as well as in other areas of the stadium.

These works, however, are not part of those proposed by the Glazer family earlier this year in their response to the collapsed European Super League proposals.

“Old Trafford is at the heart of Manchester United and while we have spent over £100million over the last 10 years on infrastructure projects, we will now accelerate the process of planning much more significant investment and upgrades to the stadium,” Joel Glazer said.

Burnley were the first team to experience some of the new facilities after playing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team in a friendly at Old Trafford on Tuesday, while United are also set to carry out extensive work at their Carrington training facility.
