Vardy double lifts Rodgers and Leicester

- By John Percy at the King Power Stadium

Brendan Rodgers has come under renewed scrutiny from supporters in recent weeks, so this was a result he needed ahead of this summer’s overhaul.

Leicester could still secure a top10 finish after Jamie Vardy’s first goals at the King Power Stadium since Nov 28 set his team on their way to a deserved victory.

Rodgers is counting down the days until the summer transfer window opens. He is targeting up to six new signings and sorely needs to finish this season with some momentum. Rodgers said: “Hopefully come the summer we can improve the squad, have a good preseason and get ready to fly again.

“Jamie was a real threat all night and he’s still got that hunger.”

Norwich’s poor campaign has seen them secure another unwanted statistic, with the 78 goals conceded eclipsing their previous top-flight record of 77 set in 2004-05.

Their goalkeeper, Angus Gunn, was inspired in the first-half and produced some excellent saves. He was finally beaten nine minutes into the second half when Vardy’s shot took a huge deflection off Grant Hanley.

While that goal was fortuitous, Vardy’s second was brilliantly taken, with the striker finding space to crash a shot into the corner. James Maddison added the third against his former club with another emphatic finish 20 minutes from the end.

Dean Smith, the Norwich head coach, said: “The first goal changed our mindset and from then on we had to suffer a little bit.”
