Film sequels are back
ALL ACROSS Hollywood, the story’s the same. No, really! It is literally the same! Another film, another sequel, another comeback. Down in the screenwriting mines, film studio after film studio blunts yet another pickaxe on unyielding rock. The ideas are finished, vanished, done, and so the comeback, initially popularised by future The Passion of the Christ star Jesus of Nazareth, is enjoying a golden age. Even The Fast and the Furious has been made approximately 67 times, which somewhat devalues its otherwise stirring soundtrack megahit, See You Again. All that said, I am contorting with excitement at the prospect of the third Star Wars film in three years. Just don’t reheat the popcorn. — Tom Ough
