The most stylish parties, hot from Paris
Keeping it surreal
In fantastical scenes reminiscent of Truman Capote’s 1966 Black and White Ball, Christian Dior took the surrealist theme of artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s couture show earlier in the day, and ran with it in an opulent celebration in the manicured gardens of the Musée Rodin. Guests were supplied with monochrome masks and invited on to a giant chessboard as they entered, to kick back as only couture patrons know how.
It might have been men’s fashion week in Paris, but that didn’t stop the girls muscling in on the fun. Saint Laurent hosted a ‘beauty club’ night to kick-start the show season, with Diane Kruger going boyish in a hoodie and Presley Gerber, son of Cindy Crawford, popping in briefly before heading off for his beauty sleep ahead of walking various men’s catwalks. Three days later, artisanal French fragrance house By Kilian marked its 10th anniversary by enlisting David Lynch, master of the twisted mise-en-scene, to design a one-off gold and black venue. By the time the birthday cake, in the form of a perfume bottle, appeared, the scent of scandal was well and truly in the air.
