Anatomy of a bag

Cartier’s latest is inspired by the luxury house’s jewellery boxes. It’s just the thing to carry your diamonds (and phone, keys and purse). Price on request, from 15 Nov.

Three major cities (Paris, London and New York) are stamped on the front of a mirror, hidden inside a secret pocket. It’s available in four different colours, all used for Cartier jewellery boxes throughout the brand’s history. The eight sides are neatly cut from super-soft calf leather. The black velvet lining you might expect to find in a jewellery case has been swapped for leather here. This shade of red was first adopted by Cartier in the 1920s and is a symbol of passion. The golden frieze decorating the bag echoes markings that have appeared on the house’s famous jewellery boxes since 1910.
