The lookalike parent trap

THEY ARE WINNERS of the genetic lottery, born into lavish wealth and a world where doors swing open, yet celeb offspring seem to have a rough time of it. Deprived of privacy, simultaneously labouring in the spotlight of public fascination and the shadows of their parents, they tend to be given the sort of names that don’t do them any favours at school (Jamie Oliver’s brood includes River Rocket, Buddy Bear and Petal Blossom, and the Kardashian-west family have Saint, North and Chicago). No wonder Rod Stewart’s eldest son Sean once called his dad’s status a ‘curse and a hindrance’. Life must be even trickier when you look the spit of them… — Jeremy Olds

Mum’s the word3. ‘Mother-daughter rivalry? We’ve never been closer!’ said Cindy Crawford, pulling in Kaia Gerber during a Mother’s Day event in California this year. ‘Mum,’ Gerber uttered,‘I can’t breathe.’4. There’s no denying the likeness between Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson – you can see it plainly in their identical clenched-jaw smiles.5. Reese Witherspoon and Ava Elizabeth Phillippe (or is it Ava and Reese?) took mother-daughter twinning to the matchy-matchy extreme in LA last month.6. You can tell by the way Suri Cruise dragged her mother from the Lincoln Center earlier this year that Katie Holmes was in for a fashion lesson once they got in the car.7. It was a tight race to be crowned Planet Earth’s Most Sullen Frenchwoman, but in the end Lily-rose Depp took the title ahead of her mother Vanessa Paradis in Paris this year.8. For Gwyneth Paltrow, the Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – Apple Martin, that is. Here’s an Instagram selfie of the blue-eyed duo on National Daughters Day this year.

Daddy dearest1. ‘Come on, Dad, put some muscle into it!’ Joseph Baena ‘out-arnies’ his dad, Arnold Schwarzenegger.2. Martin Sheen poses proudly with his actor son Emilio Estevez at the 2007 Critics’ Choice Awards. Don’t worry, you two, baby brother Charlie is at home sleeping it off.
