The new season’s finest jewellery updates
BLOSSOMING FORTH
It’s a new dawn for Louis Vuitton’s fine-jewellery division as ex-tiffany designer Francesca Amfitheatrof unveils her long-awaited debut collection for the house, B Blossom. Chubby orbs of malachite, onyx, agate and pink opal are punctuated with Vuitton’s signature star-shaped flower, and chainlink necklaces and earrings add a tough edge: perfect for those who like to style their florals with biker boots.
FLY, MY PRETTIES
Dana Alikhani and Tatiana Casiraghi, founders of the artisanal fashion and accessories label Muzungu Sisters, have a knack for inspiring wanderlust. And now the pair have teamed up with globetrotting jewellery designer Noor Fares, whose signature Wing earrings have been handpainted with vibrant patterns taken from Muzungu Sisters fabrics – providing proof that jewellery doesn’t have to be covered in gemstones in order to make an impact. CANNES DO
Elizabeth Taylor wearing a diamond tiara in 1957, Iman modelling the 203ct Millennium Star diamond in 2002, Cate Blanchett’s gem-encrusted shrimp earrings in 2014… The Cannes Film Festival is never short of iconic jewellery moments. And the aforementioned pieces would shine as beautifully this week as they did decades ago. There are, however, some subtle trends to note if you want to update your look for now. Oversized earrings and unusual coloured gemstones are set to rule the festival this year; plus, look out for bejewelled flowers with opal centres by Chopard.
FASHION’S NEW GEMS
Louis Vuitton isn’t the only fashion house to set its sights on the fine-jewellery field. This month sees the launch of Prada’s first 18ct-gold and diamond collection: guitars, roses and rabbits provide a playful take on timeless trinkets. Giorgio Armani Privé, meanwhile, recently debuted a serious, and seriously elegant, art deco-inspired Haute Jewellery range, with geometric chokers and cuffs of ruby, sapphire, onyx, coral and diamond. One flamboyant, sapphire-encrusted necklace sends a Tahitian pearl plunging down the décolletage – an accessory designed to be worn with couture.
