What to wear when the heat is on, but you’re not quite on holiday
Not on holiday yet? City dressing for the summer
WOMEN AT WORK
Alas, I can’t pretend that the entirety of the summer ahead will be spent on the beach. We’ve all got to do some regular things too, like go to the supermarket, or to work, as per. But getting dressed for everyday life in the warmer weather can be a bit more glamorous than it sounds. Net-a-porter launches its summer workwear capsule on 3 June, with exclusive pieces from labels including The Row, Tibi, Gabriela Hearst and Prada to make the commute a little more chic, and less sweaty – at a price… net-a-porter.com.
CARRY THE NIGHT
Cafuné’s structured, ladylike bags are perfect for a summer evening about town. Tuck the signature Bellows (sized at 14 x 18cm) or the bestselling Egg (above, 21.5x15.5cm) into your work bag, then take it out for drinks after hours. Basket Bucket (left), £465, and Egg, £333, both ca-fune.com.
NAME CHECK
Burberry has a new motif, designed by creative director Riccardo Tisci with artist Peter Saville, which intertwines the initials of the brand’s founder, Thomas Burberry. For its newly launched Monogram collection, Tisci has used the logo liberally across essentials from polo shirts to plimsolls. From £50, burberry.com.
TEED UP
Consider the cashmere T-shirt your new hero piece. Paired with coordinating breezy midi-skirts, Chinti & Parker’s short-sleeved knits are a godsend when you’re gambling with the unpredictable British weather. Striped cashmere T-shirt, £250, and striped tiered skirt, £325, both chintiandparker.com.
RIGHT ROYAL
On one of Meghan and Harry’s first public dates in 2017, the future Duchess made headlines by wearing the aptly named ‘Husband’ shirt by her friend Misha Nonoo’s eponymous New York label. Now, following the hype, Nonoo is coming to London and opening her first pop-up store in Marylebone on 1 June. She offers a perfect city capsule wardrobe and makes that shirt in a handful of colours. Well you would, wouldn’t you? From £55, 70-72 Marylebone Lane and mishanonoo.com.
