How to make the classic trench work for you

The Daily Telegraph - Telegraph Magazine - - Contents -

The trench coat is a perennial in the ‘wardrobe classics’ category. But what makes it so sought after? So versatile?

Let’s start with the shape: whether you’ve got boobs, a bum, or you’re more up-anddowny, the trench comes with small design tweaks (belt, hem length, epaulettes and lapels) that can make it work for you. As for colour, it’s not a case of 50 shades of beige, but rather 500. Blondes can get away with almost any tone, while darker hair colours like mine should avoid very pale or buttery hues, as they can make you look washed out. And if you’re grey, avoid, er, grey.

Trenches this season come with many different twists – whether it’s classic twill spliced with a Prince of Wales check, or asymmetric buttons, your new coat will be anything but boring.
