Sundance, Utah

Actor-director Redford bought a low-key ski resort on 5,000 acres of land in Utah in the late 1960s and spent decades modernising and developing it. Redford studied painting before going into acting – and in 1980 he established the Sundance Institute, a non-profit organisation that provides support for independent artists and organises the eponymous annual film festival. ‘Sundance is a mixture of old and new, lush and spare, sophisticated and primitive – like art itself,’ Redford has said of the resort. Pictured is the living area of his house there, where soaring windows capture dramatic panoramas of the majestic local scenery.
