My Saturday How designer Jenny Packham spends her weekend

The designer, 54, whose clients include Angelina Jolie and the Duchess of Cambridge, is up with the lark, dressed and working before an afternoon’s leisurely browsing

7am A large pink tongue licks my ear – my sprocker spaniel, Byron, wants his breakfast. My husband Mathew [CEO of Packham’s company] feeds him and brings me a mug of hot water with lemon.

7.30am I can’t lie in, I was brought up to think it was a waste of time. I get dressed, typically in jeans with a Comme des Garçons jacket and my Celine boots. I always like to feel well dressed, even on the weekends. 8am I take my laptop to breakfast on ‘Eggvocado’ at my local café, Silverberry Deli & Kitchen, where I work on my book about my life in fashion and other things. 10am I go home and sketch some designs in the kitchen. I like to be on my own to design – I can get lost in it. I used to get upset about [doing so much work at home] but now I think design is the bit of the job that I absolutely adore, so to spend time on it is a treat.

1pm I go to Foyles on Charing Cross Road, or to an exhibition. Recently I visited the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology at UCL and saw one of the oldest beaded dresses in the world made from wooden beads and shells. I love researching there;

I could make a dress that would sell today inspired by some of the pieces. 5pm If my daughters are around we’ll have dinner before they disappear out into the night. Georgia is 26 and living at home and Bern is 21 and up at York University. Mathew does a lot of the cooking. I’ve gone a bit veggie at the moment, so will eat something like cauliflower steaks with roasted peppers, or pasta. 7pm If the girls aren’t there, Mathew and I go to the local cinema, the Everyman Hampstead. I saw Joker there twice. It got much darker the second time. I thought Joaquin Phoenix was amazing.11.30pm I’ve got tons of rituals for before I go to bed, so it takes a good hour to get through them. I always take my make-up off properly, using Eve Lom cleanser, and I love to have a bath. I wear a nice silk nightdress from Kiki de Montparnasse and then read.
