HARRY’S ADVICE TO THE NATION IN THE TIME OF A PANDEMIC

-

Think of others ‘After the war, the country was totally different to how it is now. People are very selfish today and only think of themselves. When this coronavirus first started everyone who went to the supermarkets and bought up all the food was a disgrace – that was pure greed.’

The virus is teaching people to be more considerate

‘The virus is a very evil thing but it’s also a very good thing. It’s teaching people to be more kind and love one another again. Where I live in St Austell there is a family up the road and they have two children, aged 12 and eight, who come by with a banner saying if you are stuck at home they will get any shopping and anything for you that you need. They stood outside the house and talked to me when they first came along just to check I was OK. They’ve also been bringing me the newspaper and milk in the morning. Someone else is checking on another old boy over the road. Everybody has been marvellous, really. People are very kind.’

This terrible experience will unite us all

‘Like the war, this experience will bring us together. My generation saved the world when we fought against and defeated the Nazis. Now the workers of the NHS are laying their lives on the line just like we did. The people of the NHS are wonderful. They’ve got proper guts.’

The pandemic will pass

‘I hope we can celebrate the end of the virus one day like we did the end of the war. And I hope it can lead to a kinder society.’
