... and to drink
Hamish Anderson pours some hot-weather heroes
The summer solstice is a less relaxing time if you are growing grapes, with the vines about to flower, or having just recently done so. Bad weather may damage the newly formed grapes, so raise a glass and toast good weather for the coming weeks.
MERINAS ORGANIC ROSE 2019, Castilla La Mancha, Spain, £7, M&S —
It might be unfashionably deep in colour, but this full, dry rosé is a cracker. There are crisp red cherries, pepper and herbs – think of it like a light red and deploy it at barbecues.
TESCO FINEST CENTRAL OTAGO PINOT NOIR 2018, New Zealand, £13 — Richly fruited with fresh blackberry and plum, but this is not heavy – fragrance and exotic spices provide a freshening contrast.
YANGARRA ESTATE ROUSSANNE 2018, Mclaren Vale, South Australia, £16.99, allaboutwine.co.uk —
This is young (ideally decant it) but evolves wonderfully in the glass with peach underpinned by savoury, herbal notes.
It will age beautifully.
