... and to drink

Susy Atkins chooses a chilled-out trio

-

Pair Claire’s gently flavoured gazpacho with a light, easy-going white. The beans and tuna call out for a dry rosé, while the freezer cake deserves a fine dessert wine.

EXTRA SPECIAL PINOT GRIGIO 2020,

Trentino, Italy, 12 per cent, £6.50, Asda

Pinot grigios from the cooler Trentino region tend towards the fresh and elegant. This delivers soft pear and green apple, and will marry nicely with the gazpacho.

LA VIEILLE FERME ROSE 2020,

France, 12.5 per cent, £7.50, Tesco

This well-balanced, dry rosé, with its raspberry and peach notes for the late summer, matches Claire’s tuna and beans with tomatoes, olives and red pepper to perfection.

THE NED NOBLE SAUVIGNON BLANC 2 0 1 8

, Marlborough, New Zealand, 11.5 per cent, £14.99 for a half bottle, Majestic

A sweet wine with plenty of crisp citrus to balance out the sugar, this will work well with fruity frozen desserts. It’s not cheap, but makes a super bankholiday treat.
