Title bid Pochettino ready to pounce
Mauricio Pochettino has warned Premier League leaders Leicester City that his Tottenham Hotspur team are ready to capitalise should they make any mistakes in the title run-in.
“We sent a message we are there, waiting and fighting,” the manager said after yesterday’s resounding win. “If they fail, we need to stay there. Seven points is a difficult gap to reduce, but we need to believe.” Spurs would not be first side to close a big gap to win the title:
In 1996 Newcastle held a 12-point lead in January but Manchester United still finished as champions.
In 1998 United were three points clear at the top on April 4 but Arsenal won the league by a point.
In 2012 United were five points clear on April 15 but rivals City won the title on goal difference.
