Star man Willian

The Brazilian was one of a handful of Chelsea players who produced anywhere near his best form during the disastrous first half of the season that resulted in the sacking of Jose Mourinho. He scored important goals and his work-rate was an example for the likes of Oscar.

What went right?

Not a lot. The few plus points from the season largely revolve around young players such as Kenedy, Ruben LoftusCheek and the injured Kurt Zouma, who did not let anybody down.

What went wrong?

Almost everything. From the first day when Eva Carneiro ran on to the pitch to treat Hazard, the season just lurched from one crisis to another. Guus Hiddink came in and steadied the ship, but Chelsea are still a long way from where they should be.

Lame duck

It is hard to pick out one player, but Eden Hazard’s performances up until the last month were unacceptable for a player who had genuinely been one of the best in Europe just 12 months earlier.

What’s the verdict on Guus Hiddink?

Hiddink did a solid job but the attention now switches to new man Antonio Conte. The Italian’s brief is to get Chelsea straight back into the Champions League and as long as they are challenging for a top-four place, then he should be safe.
