The former Tottenham midfielder has rediscovered his mojo on moving back to the Liberty Stadium, and has been the stand-out player this term. His 11 goals prevented his side from sliding deeper into relegation trouble.
What went right
Well, they avoided relegation, which must count as the most significant achievement of the season the year before a lucrative TV contract kicks in. Ashley Williams was impressive once again, and Lukasz Fabianski did well in goal.
What went wrong?
This was the year Swansea – previously a model club for Premier League middleweights – flirted with becoming a shambles. The sacking of club legend Garry Monk was harsh, and the protracted appointment of Francesco Guidolin produced mixed results.
Lame duck Bafétimbi Gomis
A formidable talent at his best, Gomis appeared to lose his appetite for the battle this season, scoring just five goals and starting just half of Swansea’s Premier League games. He is likely to move on this summer.
What’s the verdict on Francesco Guidolin?
Guidolin only signed a contract until the end of June when he succeeded Monk in January and there were no indications it would be extended until Swansea gave him a new twoyear deal last week. Most fans are reserving judgment.
