FIVE MUST-DOS

-

THE LEFKADA HOT LIST

Have supper at stylish Thymari in Lefkada Town (thymarilefkada.gr). The grilled manouri with figs and ouzo is out of this world and the wine list is superb.

Wander around the corner and enjoy Cuban music at Havana (havanacubancafe. com), an atmospheric bar with fantastic cocktails and dancing in the street. The jury’s out on whether I salsa better before or after a caipirinha, I can’t remember.

Agios Nikitas on the northwest coast. Amble down through this pretty, car-free village to the beach and take in the view at The Captain’s Corner, where (according to the children) you can enjoy “the best chocolate milkshake ever”. There is a slightly hippy vibe, some delightful shops and tavernas and a little ferry chugs back and forth around the headland to beautiful Milos beach. Take water and shade with you – it is hot.

Rent a motor boat for the day – we use Trident (tridentboats.eu) in Nidri. You’ll be given a map, shown the ropes and left to do as you please. You can circumnavigate Skorpios and have a quayside lunch on Meganisi before dropping anchor in any one of a seemingly endless number of deserted inlets for swimming and snorkelling.

Explore inland, where there is almost no sign of commercial development. Karya is the principal village and its leafy square is the perfect spot to sit and enjoy a coffee as you watch the place go about its business. You might like to pick up some embroidery, for which the village is famous.
