MORE BUDAPEST JOYS

-

I have two recommendations to add to your guide to Budapest (“City Central”, Nov 17). We stayed in Pest, very close to the Great Market Hall, which is well worth a look. We were asked to bring back a spicy sausage and were spoilt for choice. The market is on three storeys with fantastic and creative displays of food on the ground floor. I never knew there were so many different types of pepper. It also has numerous souvenir stalls on the second floor.

In Buda, across the river from the market, is Gellert Hill, which has great views of the city. The Gellert baths are the perfect way to unwind after a march around the city. Built in

1912 in art nouveau style, there is a succession of indoor and outdoor pools beautifully decorated with columns, mosaics and fountains in the shape of sea gods and beasts. Well worth a good soak. RICHARD SAUVAIN
