CITY MOURNS LOSS OF ‘I AMSTERDAM’ SIGN

The Daily Telegraph - Travel - - FRONT PAGE -

The red and white “I Amsterdam” letters in front of the Rijksmuseum in the Dutch capital have been removed in a shock to selfie-taking tourists.

“The message of ‘I Amsterdam’ is that we are all individuals in the city,” said Femke Roosma, Amsterdam leader of the left-wing GroenLinks party behind the decision. “We want to show something different: diversity, tolerance, solidarity.”

The removal has not gone down well with Dutch voters. According to a survey by pollster Maurice de Hond, 66 per cent of Amsterdam residents
