Research by currency analysts FairFX found that the pound is worth 374 per cent more in Argentina than it was in 2012, a better increase than in any other country in the world.

Chief executive Ian Strafford-Taylor said the pound’s future closer to home looking less stable as Britain prepares to leave the EU means travellers should consider long-haul trips in 2019.

“It is likely there will be even more turbulence for the pound against the euro,” he said. “Holidaymak­ers should make 2019 the year they look further afield at destinatio­ns where the pound is performing stronger.”
