NOW TRY PROCIDA, ITALY

-

When life gave them lemons, the people of Procida, a speck in the Bay of Naples, sweetened things up with a jumble of candy-coloured buildings spilling down to the sea. The local citrus harvest stars in many of Procida’s signature dishes – with its amazing seafood. Relatively untouristy, the island is easily explored on foot and has a slightly scruffy appeal, with narrow streets, a walled old city and uncrowded beaches.

From Naples, take a ferry over to Procida. A standard room at La Vigna (www. albergolavigna.it), with vineyards and a spa, is priced from £100 per night from May to July.
