My life-changing journey was in summer 1973, the year of Watergate, in my second year of teacher training. Still unsure whether this should be my career, I enrolled for Camp America as a counsellor, responsible for a cabin with two assistants and 10 enthusiastic boys, beside a lake in Maine for six weeks.
