LOUIS BARTHELEMY

-

After working as a textile designer for Dior and Galliano in Paris before a stint in Cairo, Barthélemy moved to Marrakech a few years ago, enchanted by the vibrant colours and the warmth of its people. The move led him to tapestry-making inspired by Egyptian khayamiya (ornate decorative fabrics). His tapestries and handmade leather sandals are on sale at Pink Door boutique at Riad Mena.

The celebrated artist’s repositioning of classical Arabic calligraphy into wilder forms has resonated with global curators and collectors. His more recent work has used aspects of digital media, such as computer motherboards. A private view of his latest collection is available, strictly by appointment only, at his studio on the outskirts of the city.
