Why extra charge from Asda?

-

I recently placed a click and collect order with Asda. At the end of my shop the total was just over £48, which I agreed.

This was accordingly charged to my bank account. The following day a further charge of 40p was processed. I have no idea where it came from and what it is. It is not something I agreed to. My bank denies that it is its responsibility. Asda cannot explain it.

It is the principle of a second charge being able to be made without authorisation that bugs me, not the amount. If it is based on a proportion then imagine what it might be for a purchase that is far larger. BARRIE REEVES, SURREY Initially I wondered whether the 40p charge was for carrier bags. Even my contact at Asda thought that might explain it.

Alternatively, had you ordered something loose such as fruit that had to be weighed, or meat that was not pre-wrapped so the price wasn’t clear at the outset?

Asda’s spokesman said: “We serve more than 15 million customers online every year and we want all our customers to have a great experience, so we’re really sorry that Mr Reeves was incorrectly charged 40p on his online shop with us.”

The company refunded the full cost of your shopping as an apology for the inconvenience caused.

It said it was still looking into how this could have happened. After three weeks of waiting and two months on from the event, just as I had given up hearing any more, Asda gave an answer.

It now said it had made a mistake over a caramel shortcake milk drink that had been substituted for another item.

How Asda could cause such a kerfuffle by not answering your simple question first time around beggars belief.

It would have been so easy to find out what had happened and admit at the start that the charge should never have been made.
