Mr Holloway, a 28-yearold from Hemel Hempstead, Herts, bought into GameStop and AMC Entertainment on Jan 20 after following Reddit’s WallStreetBets forum. He knew about the “value” investing thesis but then saw momentum build online about a “short squeeze” and kept investing to make 280pc on his original stake. “I was buying more because I thought there was a genuine turnaround opportunity than because of the online frenzy. I doubled my money and took out my initial stake, then bought and sold shares with my profits as the short squeeze took off,” he said.
