‘It’s not necessarily sensible in the long run’

INGE HUNTER 95pc mortgages

-

The allure of a 95pc mortgage does not appeal to all first-time buyers. Inge Hunter, a 31-year- old digital marketing consultant, has instead chosen to use the Help to Buy programme for her first home.

“When we heard back from brokers, we would have been paying significantly more on the cost of a 95pc mortgage each month,” she said. “The Government- backed 95pc scheme feels like a vote-winning policy, but not something which is necessarily sensible in the long run. I would worry it would leave buyers in unstable and expensive situations.”
