MEET THE COUPLE

- Lauren Jones

Occupation: Dietician Salary: £25,000 Age: 35 Which of you is richer?

Huw. He has the higher salary and always has, being older than me and male. Having said that, I think we are good at sharing our money and treats.

Who’s most likely to duck out of a round at the pub?

Definitely Huw. We are both tight with our money, but I’m far more likely to bow to social pressure and take my turn. Huw would happily keep receiving free drinks until someone told him to buy one!

Who’s most likely to fall for a scam?

Again, Huw as he would be tempted by any opportunity to make money. Although, I’m the one more likely to spend money if tempted by a special deal.

Do you have a running away fund?

I didn’t, but you’ve given me an idea now.

If you were given £10,000 what would you do with it?

My thoughts first jump to a holiday on the beach, maybe in Fiji. But then the sensible part of my brain wouldn’t let me do something that frivolous, so I would probably look to upgrade my car. But I would have to enjoy some family days out.

Which of you is richer?

Me. I’m a bit older than Lauren and had a house when we met 12 years ago. I also earn more. But she calls the shots more with our spending.

Who’s most likely to duck out of a round at the pub?

Me. Lauren is the most generous, kind person – she would be more conscious of paying her fair share. I could forget to buy a drink, whereas she’d be the first one at the bar.

Who’s most likely to fall for a scam?

Me. We’re both quite savvy, but Lauren’s not interested in any kind of investment, whereas I like dabbling in shares.

Do you have a running away fund?

No. We have a running joke that I have a box of gold that I could use to just up and leave – but in reality, most of our income goes into the same pot.

If you were given £10,000 what would you do with it?

I’d have to talk to Lauren about it. We’d probably put it towards the house and consider buying a bigger car, second hand, for our growing family.
