Success of British aid

-

SIR – Where international aid doesn’t contribute to mitigating poverty, we should of course be concerned (“Juggling and junkets funded by British aid”, report, July 20).

However, the vast majority of EU and British aid provides excellent value for money and is among the most effective in the world, saving millions of lives and supporting millions more people to lift themselves out of poverty. In the past five years, British aid alone has given 62 million people access to clean water and helped 11 million children go to school.

We can be proud of our support for those who have the least.
