Yorkshireman abroad

SIR – Gavin Inglis’s letter (July 20) reminded of my late brother, also from Yorkshire, who regularly used the “Na’ then” greeting.

He continued this practice on his overseas travels and confused many a Frenchman by greeting them with “Maintenant alors”.
